The Affair of the Zealous Revel
The Temple of the Wheel is a bygone relic, thrumming with the faint whispers of the past. The rituals of Stone once practiced here have fallen silent, but the strange creatures of the Wood have begun to congregate around its mossy foundation.

Sr Jesus Choqne | ’To Maracaibo I go, to seek more of my future and my past in the Wood.' | 'I can only dwell in my past through the narrowest of loopholes. I hope some of my old friends join in the dance around the Wheel.' | 'There are ways to join in this dance, if I can match the rhythm and procure the proper influences. A tinku Catacumbo, if you will. I look forward to reconnecting, however briefly.‘ | Jesus went to join the dance among the Wood-spirits in hopes of reconnecting, however briefly, with his lost friends and compatriots of another age. |
Prof Ji Yuan | ’It’s difficult to hunt down the sweetness in the Wood. Now that its inhabitants are swarming together, I’m hoping they lead me to a very particular sweetness.' | 'T.R.N. provides rare spices in exchange for the blood of certain Long, but they have always sought that of the Nectar-long. It is difficult distinguish Green Long from those of the bloody gods, but there are ways.' | 'Some of these Long at the Temple are on the cusp of Nectar-longhood. Within its hollow, they are undergoing changes. I do not know when they will came without, but at least I know where to find them once they do. Here’s my thanks, Librarian.‘ | Prof. Yuan believed certain Long were changing into Nectar-long inside the Temple of the Wheel, and planned accordingly to acquire their blood for T.R.N. Limited. |
Subcomandante Zuazo | ’The Temple is drawing many interesting creatures. Perhaps a few Long of the Wood may appear as well.' | 'An uyanantin is picky about who they meet. Always needing one of their own blood on this side. Rarely do they ever manifest in the Wake. But I sense certain influences converging here. I hope to make an opportunity out of them.' | 'Of course! We carry more than one bloodline within us. If golden blood was shed to remind the Moth-long of their oldest selves, our Cross connection shall bind us. Bright wings will soon fly, Librarian. Bright! Bright!’ | Subcomandante Zuazo planned to establish a ‘Cross connection’ with the Moth-long gathering at the Temple of the Wheel in the hopes that ‘bright wings’ would fly - alluding to the Glaeterfleoge-kind, or perhaps the elusive Scīmafectra-kind? |

Dr Louize Haig | ’No one wants to deal with Wood-pests in dreams, even less outside of them. But the nights in Maraciabo are growing strange with their shapes.' | 'A wild and terrible thought has occurred to me: how might one catch lightning in a bottle? And how might one put that to use?' | 'There is a way… I’ll need many materials: a kite, a key, a great power of binding, but with enough Heart-influence I am sure that instantaneous motion can be perpetually confined.‘ | Dr Haig devised a method by which she might harness the lightning that dances around the Temple of the Wheel. |
Lic Enrique Esquivel | ’Getting reports of a plague in Maracaibo. Well, plague isn’t exactly right. It’s something more like overgrowth.' | 'Some kind of algae-mold thing has spread through the water systems. Turns the pipes soft, leaks into the masonry and turns things gooey, makes people dream of the Wood. Now these dreamers are turning… damp, shall we say. A green kind of dampness which sticks to your skin.' | 'Luckily, the Dottore isn’t involved in this particular mess. Won’t be able to charm this awful plague away, but if it can’t be cured, it can at least be contained. Stay in good health, Librarian.‘ | Senator Esquivel went to Maraciabo to contain the spread of an ‘algae-mold thing’, though he was relieved to learn Dottore Robigo had no hand in it. |
Capt Tuponotanga | ’The Wood has been growing lively as of late. Too lively, in my partner’s opinion.' | 'Gabriel visited the Temple of the Wheel, and spotted duendrazones entering its hollows. I know the Thunderskin’s song reaches the Wood, but for his Long to go there as well…' | 'I think the duendrazones are learning another song within, one older than their master’s. ‘Lightning before thunder’, after all, and the lightning over Maracaibo grows brighter - and the world’s skin quakes. Let’s hope this coming storm can be quelled.‘ | Tuponotanga thought the Long of the Thunderskin were learning another Hour’s song, and traveled to Maracaibo where ‘the world’s skin quakes’ to curtail whatever consequences that entails. |

Robigo | ’Do you wonder if I will perchance a visit to the Temple? You are not alone in that. I wonder as well, and I will keep wondering…' | 'History is written in blood, and I - as well as my fellows - have no blood to speak of. Only my master can enjoy an existence in the Histories, even as he clings to them like the barnacle on the whale-belly, but I would not mind my visit there being written of - so long as you use the necessary inks to speak of it.‘ | Lesson: Inks of Containment |
La Magdalena | The tale of the Temple doesn’t seem to interest her at first, but as I speak, her tail flicks to the left, to the right - round and round, turning bright - | ‘going back into night - waiting still for the moon - pulsing deep without light - moving far in the gloom - let us live void of sight - let our steps sing his tune -’ And the cat sleeps curled up at my feet. | Lesson: Drums & Dances |
Shura the Pythian | ’The Temple of the Wheel is not a wound nor a scar. Yet it remains an open door, as was first intended, and the gap there now widens.' | 'One must pass by the Temple before the House comes before them, where it pierces the Wood and the Bounds. Old airs of old gods remain there, humming in the space within. But their voices begin to pass beyond, speaking old secrets, and the world may soon bleed more for it.‘ | Lesson: Surgeries & Exsanguinations |
Charles Lacombe | ’One of my first assignments from the Bureau was to visit the Temple of the Wheel. To learn the edges of what I shouldn’t know - and to learn whether I dream too deep for them to tolerate.' | 'I scratched the old eye on its old flank in the old moss, as others did before me. I met another soul on the inside, who I did not see, but I spoke with, and who saw me. Or perhaps it was me. If so, perhaps that is why the Dottore chose me. The old Carapace was always a fine place to grow.‘ | Lesson: Insects & Nectars |
