The lunette is made of black glass, an unusual choice for a vessel of exposition. The House of the Moon over which the Meniscate presides is said to be accessible through a key of black sapphire, but black glass is also associated with the Carapace-kind known as the Thritige - and by extension, the sinister plane beneath the House known as Nowhere.
