Book of Joined Counsel

A diverging version of the Popol Vuh that recounts the defeat of Zipacna and Cabrakan, brothers who raised and destroyed mountains, at the hands of the Hero Twins Hunahpu and Xbalanque. They have long been known as Names, but no one knows with certainty who they serve.

By splitting mountains, Zipacna kills the Four Hundred Boys, dear companions of the Hero Twins. In turn, they lure him from his frequented shores, promising to sate his hunger. When he follows, Hunahpu joins the mountains together, crushing Zipacna between them. Cabrakan tries to dig his brother out, but Xbalanque unseams the earth, and he falls far below the world…

Tentatively, the author calls them Names of the Witch-and-Sister and the Sister-and-Witch. Without a tear, they weaved themselves, the moon leading the sea’s steps and the sun guiding the moon’s gaze. The unbreakable binding they used can be made from a Hawthorn Chain, but it also suggests that with enough Heart, the arts of Fangs & Fossils can draw ‘forgotten blood’ out of stone. **Effect: **Memory: Salt **Mastery: **Lesson: Weaving & Knotworking
