Discourses on the Rising Spider’s appetite authored by the Bird-Eaters, the network of criminal adepts who spurn the laws of man and the Law of the Hours.

Praises are made to the Rising Spider - who climbs unstoppably - as well as the Mother of Ants - who transgresses all laws, and to whom the Spider’s Door is sacred. The Bird-Eaters note that while spilling blood allows one to pass this Door, the Hours restrict it from fully opening to prevent ‘the Disgorgement of Dream’.

The Bird-Eaters debate what sacrifice may truly open the Wrong Door. They surmise only those who have earned the Spider’s highest enmity can unlock it, and single out three beings: the Moth, who flies into Death and yet survives the Spider’s designs; the Ivory Dove, by whom the Dead escape the Spider’s web; and Vak, the highest Door to which mortals aspire, who fell and yet rose higher than the Spider may ever climb.
