Andean Splendors

Accounts of solar rites in the Fourfold Realm recorded by the excommunicated illuminate Brother Nicolás Lopez, with later appendations from Almudena Shuña.

Lopez describes the annual festivals for the Sun-in-Splendor performed at the Rock of the Owl. He observes that, ‘though the skies are inverted’, the high priests of the Fourfold Realm entreat the Sun to deliver them from ‘the Winter dark’ as the Church does. He believes this to be the meaning behind his sunset aspect, the Begging Sun. But Shuña offers another explanation, that it is instead the Sun himself who begs Winter to release him.

Lopez focuses on one particular phrase: ‘the Egg is a Stone, the Sun is a Jewel’, which he claims is essential to the ‘discernment of Light.’ Shuña raises doubts as to whether this phrase was ever a part of the Fourfold Rites, but nonetheless ties it to a number of traditions throughout the globe which speak of ‘the Mountain beneath all Mountains’, and ‘the Suns within the Sun’.
