Each half bears writing on the inside of the mask. One side contains Nahuatl, or perhaps its proto-language. The other bears a striking resemblance to the Fucine script, but the vocabulary differs drastically from the Marsian mode. However, the characters share the same phonetics. Could this be a cipher? If I study it carefully, I can untangle its secrets…

I’ve Studied

Herein lies the tale of the Sister and the Witch, a princess from the west and a monster from the east. In dream they met and loved, and sought union in the waking world. When disaster visited the land where they joined, its rulers wished to sacrifice them, declaring theirs a profane union of eras. The two fled dawnwards to protect their union - in the light of the Sun, or the abyss of Death. Both succeeded in each path, their journeys marked in the count of days, the count of years; every fifty-two years mourns their time apart and celebrates their inevitable reunion.
