Disciplines of the Hammer
Commit to Ithastry - Lime and Ash
A certain parable of the Bright Arts tells of a surveyor who raised a tower of lime and ash to see all the land; but then set fires without its walls so no other creation could bar their view.
Commit to Nyctodromy - Glass and Horn
A certain parable of the Night Arts tells of a servant who raised a stair of glass and horn for their king to enter his palace; but who set a secret door within so they and their kin could enter too.
Door & Wall
‘When no key exists, make one; where no gate stands, build one; for all passage is a test of faith.’ - Father Luis Bahamonde, CA
Commit to Nyctodromy - Where One Goes
There is a prophecy, of a world without Nowhere. There is a paradox, that Nowhere cannot be destroyed. The Night Arts teach this resolution: that it can find somewhere beyond the reach of the Hours’ decrees and thus become real.
Commit to Horomachistry - Where One Dies
There is a prophecy, of a world without Nowhere. There is a paradox, that Nowhere cannot be destroyed. The Bright Arts teach this resolution: that Nowhere is a kingdom, so its conquering can unmake its rulers and their domain.
Edicts Liminal
Commit to Nyctodromy - Flesh
The Hours of the Chancel decreed that no mortal can touch the Law, that such a privilege belongs only to the gods-who-are. The resolutions of the Chancel cannot be changed, but now and then they have been augmented… and we might appeal to the gods-who-were-flesh, who recall the paths of ascension by which they entered into the Law; who may grant us passage upon them to enter into its heart. [This would be Nyctodromy.]
Commit to Skolekosophy - Darkness
The Hours of the Chancel decreed that no mortal can touch the Law, that such a privilege belongs only to the gods-who-are. The resolutions of the Chancel cannot be changed, but now and then they have been augmented… and we might appeal to the gods-who-are-Nowhere, who magnify the weaknesses in the world’s skin; who may show us how to take advantage of its flaws to break apart its heart. [This would be skolekosophy.]
Glassblowing & Vesselcrafting
‘To contain is a puerile feat. To show without what is kept within- that is the master’s accomplishment .’ - Kume Tsūten
Inks of Revelation
Commit to Hushery - An Unmaking
The inks called encaustum terminale are permitted only to the Librarians of the Watchman’s Tree. Those inks can be used to reveal the Histories - and to reveal the Histories is to mark their end. To reveal these secrets is to unmake them, so they must remain hidden until the world is ready to end. [This is a matter of Hushery.]
Commit to Ithastry - A Refining
The inks called encaustum terminale are permitted only to the Librarians of the Watchman’s Tree. Those inks can be used to reveal the Histories - and to reveal the Histories is to weigh their truths. If the greatest of these were acknowledged - if all of its lessers were discarded - the world may find its truest form. [Ithastry teaches what is essential.]
Maggephene Mysteries
Commit to Hushery - Return to Darkness
Was it Nowhere from which the world came? Is that where the roots of the Histories lie? Perhaps this is why they must struggle to endure against plague, blight, ruin. If this struggle were to end, might Nowhere let us return in peace? [This is the hope of the Night Arts.]
Commit to Preservation - Return to Light
Was it Nowhere from which the world came? Is that where the roots of the Histories lie? Perhaps this is why they must struggle to endure against plague, blight, ruin. If Histories thought lost still endure in Nowhere, might they someday return? [This is the hope of the Arts Unregarded.]
Meniscate Reflections
Commit to Illumination - Forever Unmarred
Dream of a world in perfect balance with Nowhere. Nothing can escape its reach outside Dream. Reflect on the Hour named Meniscate, whose wounded face reveals the truths in darkness. In the Glory, the flaws of Nowhere can be one with perfection. [Illuminate their wisdom.]
Commit to Preservation - Forever Unseen
Dream of a world in perfect balance with Nowhere. Nothing can escape its reach outside Dream. Reflect on the Hour named Meniscate, whose wounded face reveals beauty in all which comes before her. Protect Nowhere in her shadowed domain, the House of the Moon. [Preserve its impurities.]
Path & Pilgrim
‘Where we are no longer, our traces remain.’ - Bartolina Mamani
Purifications & Exaltations
‘Burn up what must change. Sift out what yet remains. Now it is greater than it was, but how much greater can it be?’ - Ursula Sabès
Putrefactions & Calcinations
‘Glaciers melt, but their steps remain.’ - Madeline Cross
Commit to Ithastry - Left to Lie
All things rot in Nowhere, and to rot is to be transformed. If the Histories which live continue to fail us, then they can only gratify us in death. [This is Ithastry at its darkest.]
Commit to Skolekosophy - Left to Live
All things rot in Nowhere, and to rot is to be transformed. So even the Dead provide soil for life; and in it, we might nurture a new History. [This is Skolekosophy at its brightest.]
Quenchings & Quellings
Arts which quench fires and bring solace to the troubled mind. ‘Lay down pain in the night; let dawn brush it aside.’ - Almudena Shuña
Resurgences & Emergences
Commit to Bosk - Blood and Stone
The gods-who-are made a law that any immortal who consumes their child must be cast out from the order of dream. Even now this law is enforced, but the seven corrupted immortals called Ligeians retain the privileges of Names. For once, they served an Hour of Blood and Stone: when the law is defied, they will once more be Names to its violator.
Commit to Preservation - Stone and Blood
The gods-who-are made a law that any immortal who consumes their child must be cast out from the order of dream. Even now this law is enforced, but the seven corrupted immortals called Ligeians retain the privileges of Names. For once, they served an Hour of Stone and Blood: when the law is preserved, they will once more become its enforcers.
Rites of the Roots
Commit to Bosk - Perennial
The Histories are fed by the blood of the gods-who-were stone, spilled through wounds inflicted by shears and thirst and hammer. This is why the gods-who-are refrain from destroying their peers. If enough blood is spilled, an unwritten History could be born. [This is Bosk.]
Commit to Preservation - Evergreen
The Histories are fed by the blood of the gods-who-were stone, spilled through wounds inflicted by shears and thirst and hammer. This is why the gods-who-are refrain from destroying their peers. If enough blood is spilled, the Histories lost to earth and sea would return. [Preservation remembers.]
Sabazine
Commit to Birdsong - The Farmer’s Tale
There’s a story told by at the forest’s edge, about a house of horn and glass whose roots permeate the world. Those who cut from its roots can found a house of their own, but they will no longer find shelter beyond it. Only in another History, they say; but if you turn the earth right, you might uncover those roots.
Commit to Horomachistry - The Woodcutter’s Tale
There’s a story told in the deep forest, about a house of jade and nephrite which lies beneath the world. Those who descend can never be destroyed, but they must submit to the monsters which dwell there. Only in another History, they say; but if you follow the right roots down, you might find its door, and those monsters might be driven out.
Sacra Limiae
Commit to Horomachistry - On Counters
The Hours are not without weakness. The gods-who-were-flesh understood this before they entered the Mansus. If we mortals took advantage, we might take their place in the Mansus. [Horomachists know how the Hours are surpassed.]
Commit to Hushery - On Contrasts
The Hours are not all-encompassing. The gods-from-light acknowledged this when they descended from the Glory. If Light destroys immortals, then even Nowhere can be cleansed. [Death is the final truth, and Hushery knows.]
Sea Stories
Commit to Birdsong - The Coil-Queen
The Ligeian Medusa, holder of the Forest Key, called snake-witch, coil-queen. Did she sit upon the throne lost to the sea beneath? If another is crowned beneath the full moon, will her successor lay claim to her subjects? [This is Birdsong-gossip.]
Commit to Nyctodromy - The Dry-Witch
The Ligeian Marinette, holder of the Flaying Key, called dry-witch, white-hands. What does she seek in the sea beneath? When we follow her steps beneath the new moon, will we find the path to its gate? [This matter of steps and gates is Nyctodromy.]
Sights & Sensations
Commit to Hushery - A Window
Look upon a painting: see another world. Understand a painting: know it is but a memory. When memory is all that remains, then Light only wears it away. If we confine what is lost to shadow, then no memory can truly fade. [This is the knowledge of the students of silence.]
Commit to Nyctodromy - A Door
Look upon a painting: see another world. Understand a painting: know it may be a door. Every door can be passed, and all doors open both ways. So even the past thought lost can enter into the present. [The keys to knowledge lie in Nyctodromy.]
Stone Stories
Commit to Birdsong - Freedom in Strength
When the sun was red and low, mortals could find freedom in its long, long shadow. The Glory burnt all these away, but shadow always has a home. Listen close [to the songs of the Roost]: Behind moonlight, darkness. In darkness, danger. Through danger, freedom.
Commit to Preservation - Safety in Shadow
When the sun was red and low, mortals could find safety in its long, long shadow. The Glory burnt all these away, but shadow always has a home. Listen close [to the words of the Black-flax]: Between music, silence. In silence, ignorance. Through ignorance, safety.
Transformations & Liberations
Commit to Illumination - A Glorious Start
Seven souls are prophesied to someday enter the Glory. The Vagabond will be first, and in the light above the Mansus, she shall fulfill her innermost wish. [Illumination tells us] she longs to enter the nexus of the world, and in the Glory, all worlds find their beginning.
Commit to Ithastry - A Glorious End
Seven souls are prophesied to someday enter the Glory. The Vagabond will be first, and in the light above the Mansus, she shall fulfill her innermost wish. [Ithastry tells us] she longs to shed her immortal shell, and in the Glory, all things find their final form.
Weaving & Knotworking
‘Here we start. Here we meet. Here we part. Here we seek.’ - Leonor Curicuillor
Wolf Stories
Commit to Birdsong - What is Offered
The world is plagued by Devourers - the alukites, the Mansus-spirits, the hungry dead. Their appetites cannot be sated, for the Law has exiled from the fruits of its garden. If we brought them these fruits, might they find satisfaction? [This is the question Birdsong seeks to answer.]
Commit to Skolekosophy - What is Sacrificed
The world is plagued by Devourers - the alukites, the Mansus-spirits, the hungry dead. Their appetites cannot be sated, for the Law has exiled from the fruits of its garden. If we allowed them into the garden, might its consumption satisfy them? [This is the question Skolekosophy seeks to answer.]
