The Shorn Brotherhood claims to have emerged in 17th-century Mexico as an alliance of Bladegrinders and Pueblo Contrarians against the Universal Monarchs. They devoted themselves to ‘inner rebellion and perpetual strife’ in honor of the Hunter Lion and the Hairtaker.

As the Wars of Independence broke out, the Brotherhood’s influence spread across the Americas. Their members first came to the Haustorium in pursuit of the ‘hybrid traditions’ which persist here. Some deride them as collaborators of the Crowned Growth, but they swore to strive against him, and have - perhaps recklessly - deployed their fires against his encroaching authority.
