On the Noblest Hues

Cipriano Vara expounds on the properties imbued to textiles dyed with the Great Inks, and what privileges or powers these may confer upon their wearers.

Vara insists that sumptuary laws sought to disallow access to these rarest colors, from the archipelagic domain of the Chrysanthemum Throne to the stratified lands of the Fourfold Realm. ‘The Byzantines knew the uses and dangers of porphyrine. Secrets come all the quicker, but the histories weigh heavy on the mind - only the greatest could bear them and remain uncrushed.’

I’ve Read…

Vara relates traditions from the Fourfold Realm of the Highmost Prince donning clothes of Uzult to magnify his soul, while the other Princes, of dynasties both Upper and Lower, dressed themselves in Marakat ‘to benefit by his Light’. Both these dyes were prepared by the Sacra Tetrarcharum (with Lantern and Nectar aspect respectively). Vara leaves off pondering how truly distinct the Mansus and the Wood truly are from each other, and from the Histories. Effect: Memory: Revelation
