Besides wolf spiders and owlet moths, she studied the pale insects gathered at the edge of the summit snow, consuming the frozen carcasses within. They molted at a rapid rate, and their empty exoskeletons formed long trails across the tundra. She stepped carefully so as to not crush any, fearful of the consequences.

A freak blizzard forced her to descend, finding refuge in a lava tube. While there, singing from further within flooded her with heat until she passed out, waking up hours later in a cocoon of ice, unharmed.
