The Warlock visits the Gull-Isles and encounters the Witch. Eager to prove his power, he challenges her to a contest of sea-taming. He stills them with nary a thought, but when she makes the sea turbulent and runs his ship aground, he concedes, rewarding her with a magical tome of the northern seas.

The Witch rules the Gull-Isles for a century as the Righteous Province, but in time, she tires of the world. Boarding the Ship of the Golden Wolf, she passes to the Land Beyond the Wave. Without her, the Province loses power, and her followers are forced into hiding. Now they ask the stone-spine emissaries of the sea beneath to convey their desperate pleas for her return.
