Mechanic: Faculty Projects
Faculty stories are a new mechanic unique to ROOT OF WISDOM. Upon unlocking specific rooms in each of the Haustorium’s nine wings, a card for the faculty-member is created. The faculty can be spoken to like a visitor or assistant, but their trust must be earned by providing them with a book that matches their interests. After the librarian has proved themself to the faculty-member, they have more options for how they interact with the faculty:
By providing an Incident card that matches the aspects of the faculty-member’s interests, the faculty-member will comment on the incident in a brief dialogue and provide a relevant lesson. Once one faculty-member has commented on an incident, the others will not. (Academics are territorial about their work!) You can read faculty comments on the page for each incident.
By providing a spintria, the faculty-member can provide tutoring in a language just like a visitor.
By providing an element of the soul, the player can open a slot to assist the faculty-member with their specific research project. Each research project has a series of steps that requires very specific texts, craftable items, or gatherable items from throughout the Haustorium, similar to “Further Stories” from HOUSE OF LIGHT. Upon the completion of one task, the faculty-member’s research aspect advances with a unique description to record their progress. In the final stage of research the librarian has multiple courses of action to take that lead the faculty to different conclusions of their projects. When the project is complete, the faculty-member receives the “Grateful” aspect and can then be hired as assistance to aid in unlocking rooms of the library. They also provide their unique remedy to heal the Poisoned Tree and allow the librarian to win a true victory.
Robigo does not have a faculty project, but instead comes to the Haustorium yearly during Camai Quilla in one of several forms.
